Job Summary

Performs various security related duties to ensure the safety of hospital patients, visitors and staff. Responds to all incidents of disruptive or assaultive individuals, investigates reports of suspicious activity and performs customer service functions as described by policy/procedures. Armed Security Officers conduct facility and grounds patrols and inspections. Officers record daily activities in a log and/or incident reports and carry out duties assigned by the Security Supervisor.

Minimum

Job Qualifications
  • Valid GA Driver’s License and current BLS certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in military, police, corrections, or private security background.
  • Other requirements may be specified.

Essential Tasks And Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine and random patrols of facility and grounds using established techniques; report all findings and hazards.
  • Investigate security or risk‑management incidents; report findings to supervisor and coordinator.
  • Participate in training drills and maintain documentation per NGHS policy and regulatory agencies.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions promptly.
  • Maintain sidearm with required certification and ammunition; keep weapon operational.
  • Complete required professional training and maintain certifications.
  • Assist new officers in performance evaluations and training.
  • Respond to assistance requests, including door unlocking, vehicle assistance, escorting funds, and safety escorts.
  • Negotiate with the public to maintain policies and defuse confrontation when possible.
  • Answer public inquiries and demonstrate willingness to assist.
  • Maintain accuracy and accountability with funds and property.
  • Prioritize tasks, manage time, and share workloads efficiently.
  • Execute special duties and report findings promptly.
  • Perform emergency procedures (codes, fire, disaster) according to policy.
  • Respond to confrontational situations and support other officers and staff.
  • Use communication techniques to de‑escalate conflicts.
  • Correctly use department equipment and maintain its condition.
  • Monitor CCTV for suspicious activity.
  • Interview individuals respectfully and without bias.
  • Exercise good judgment to respond to emergencies and control disorderly conduct.
  • Maintain compassion and professionalism under extreme conditions.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
