Job Summary

Telemetry Technician: NTMC will provide 3‑6 weeks of on‑the‑job training for this position. Experienced technicians are preferred.

A Telemetry Technician monitors cardiac rhythms via telemetry monitors, prepares and compiles telemetry records for the multidisciplinary team, and effectively communicates with nursing staff to provide safe patient care.

• Reflects knowledge and good judgment in decisions and actions within the role of Telemetry Technician.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart in relation to waves, complexes, time and voltage shown through the conduction system and strip interpretation.
• Demonstrates competency in interpreting dysrhythmias.
• Maintains awareness of patient location and condition of telemetric patterns.
• Runs and posts rhythm strips at the specified times each shift, alerting charge nurses or primary care nurses to any abnormal rhythms or changes in vital signs.
• Interacts with co‑workers, other hospital staff and the general public in a professional and respectful manner.
• Answers the telephone in a timely and polite manner.
• Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
• Participates in conferences involving the care of patients as needed.
• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Manager.

• Basic computer skills and knowledge.
• Ability to be flexible, organized and function effectively in stressful situations.
• Ability to communicate professionally and clearly to co‑workers, charge nurse and physicians.

• High School diploma or the equivalent (GED).
• Telemetry Certification or previous Telemetry Experience.

• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages are a plus.

• Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs.
• Required to sit for long periods.
• Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, kneel, twist, and reach above shoulder level.
• Vision and hearing skills must be corrected to near normal range.
