Career Path Promotion Opportunity:
The Psychologist I is in a TJJD career path. The selected applicant may be promoted to Psychologist II upon completion of two years of experience as a licensed psychologist without having to compete for a vacant position provided he/she meets the established performance criteria per agency policy (PRS.
15.07).
TJJD effectively addresses the multiple and complex needs of the youth committed to the agency and their families through a trauma informed multi-disciplinary integrated approach that includes implementation of the agency approved Texas Model of Trauma Informed Corrections strategy and a Mental Health Treatment Program (MHTP). The MHTP provides enhanced psychiatric and psychological assistance to youth diagnosed with moderate to severe mental health problems and/or illnesses, which allows the general rehabilitation case managers to focus on risk reduction and protective factor enhancement strategies to reduce the risk of reoffending.
This collaboration allows for holistic and individualized treatment of youth in need of MHTP services.
Performs psychological work and assists in leading a team of mental health specialists at the assigned secure correctional facility. Work involves assisting in the supervision of trauma informed intake, assessment, and treatment processes; providing consultation and assisting with monitoring, evaluating and training for all assessment and treatment programs; providing consultation and training in conducting trauma informed groups based upon the Texas Model of Trauma Informed Corrections program;
providing direct professional services including trauma informed groups, family, and individual counseling; conducting trauma informed psychological evaluations of youth; and performing discharge and transition activities to ensure coordination of treatment service delivery upon release to a halfway house or the community.
