Seeking a RN that provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, nurse managers and co-workers, as appropriate, about changes in a patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Responsibilities- Perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassess as per policy, including pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and the general patient population.
- Assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall effectiveness daily.
- Perform waived testing (point-of-care testing, glucometers) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the resident care unit’s policies and procedures.
- Interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action.
- Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
- Know medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
- Follow the six medication rights and reduce potential for medication errors.
- Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs, evaluate effectiveness of learning, and include family as appropriate.
- Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Current RN license in the State of Texas
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification within first 90 days
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within first 90 days
- Previous Med Surg experience preferred
- Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
