General

Description

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) enforces safety and security of the Texas juvenile justice system, investigates criminal allegations, and oversees investigations per Texas law. OIG inspectors general possess peace officer authority and handle investigations for state and county facilities. They provide security at gatehouses and control ingress/egress of personnel and vehicles, intercept contraband, and operate the 24‑hour Incident Reporting Center (IRC).

Essential

Duties
  • Control entrance to gatehouse and secure buildings by confirming authorized admittance before unlocking doors.
  • Monitor and patrol buildings and exterior grounds, watch for unauthorized persons, fires, and unusual occurrences, report emergencies.
  • Operate camera system and record incidents throughout campus.
  • Control vehicle entry/exit at front and rear gates, including deliveries and contractor traffic.
  • Monitor all vehicle traffic on the facility.
  • Make emergency notifications and initiate calls as required.
  • Greet visitors and maintain records/logs of all persons/vehicles entering and exiting.
  • Monitor radio transmissions.
  • Issue and collect keys, maintain key control and verify admission/departure permits.
  • Collaborate with facility staff to achieve objectives, share information, identify concerns and recommend improvements.
  • Identify, report, confront, or apprehend persons/suspects in cases of unauthorized entry, malicious mischief, or other violations.
  • Perform any related duties as assigned.
  • Follow agency safety policies, report hazards, correct them when possible.
  • Complete required documentation for accidents/injuries promptly.
  • Attend work on a regular schedule per agency attendance and leave policies.
  • Travel up to 20% of the time.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications
:
High School diploma or equivalent; valid driver's license.

Preferred qualifications
:
Level II or III security guard license from Texas Department of Public Safety; military police experience; military experience; firearms proficiency. All degrees must be from an accredited institution.

Required to pass mandatory pre‑employment drug testing and a written exercise plus a physical fitness assessment. Position subject to written exercise and physical fitness assessment.
