Work Based Learning Program Data Center Operations Technician
Join the AWS Work Based Learning Program (WBLP) to become a Data Center Technician. This 12‑month trainee program is based in Northern Virginia and offers on‑site training, real‑world experience working with servers, cooling, networking, and data center operations. Trainees report to a site location and will participate in rotations to support 24/7 data center operations.
Key job responsibilities- Perform server rack installation, hardware break‑fix, troubleshooting network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability.
- Serve as a contact point for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
- Participate in on‑call duties and scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
- Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
- Complete the 12‑month WBLP training curriculum, including all required safety certifications, technical competencies, and performance milestones.
- Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution.
- Solve problems at their root and step back to understand the broader context.
- Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
- Lift/move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds.
- Work in a 24/7 environment with primary responder rotation and after‑hours support as needed.
- Work in cramped, elevated, noisy environments.
- Stand, walk, bend, stretch, reach for up to 8+ hours a day.
- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
- Work in non‑climate‑controlled environments with temperature fluctuations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Willingness to participate in shift rotations to support 24/7 data center operations.
- Knowledge of computer hardware components and operating systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products and applications.
- Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system and coordination with manager.
- STEM classes or vocational course curriculum education.
