Accounts Payable Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support day-to-day payment operations for a team based in Gaithersburg, Maryland. This Long-term Contract opportunity is well suited for someone who is highly organized, accurate, and comfortable managing invoice workflows in a fast-paced environment. The person in this role will work closely with leadership and internal partners to help maintain timely processing, reliable records, and consistent financial controls.

Responsibilities:

- Process a high volume of vendor invoices with close attention to accuracy, approvals, and payment timelines.

- Assign proper general ledger and account coding to invoices before entry into the payment system.

- Review billing documents for completeness, resolve discrepancies, and follow up with internal contacts or vendors as needed.

- Prepare and support ACH payments and check runs in accordance with established schedules and procedures.

- Maintain organized accounts payable records to ensure documentation is current, accessible, and audit-ready.

- Partner with the IT manager and other internal stakeholders to support accounts payable activities and related operational needs.

- Monitor outstanding items, reconcile payment issues, and help ensure vendors are paid correctly and on time. Requirements - Hands-on experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.

- Working knowledge of invoice processing, account coding, and payment documentation procedures.

- Experience handling ACH transactions and coordinating check runs.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and resolve discrepancies efficiently.

- Comfortable using accounting systems and standard business software to manage financial records.

- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a structured finance environment.
