Position Eligibility
This Position is ONLY Open to Montgomery County Government Employees:
- (1) Current Montgomery County Government employees;
- (2) Montgomery County employees who were affected by reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights;
- (3) Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program (LOSAP); or
- (4) Active Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Customized Employment Public Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $76,742 (minimum) - $122,603 (maximum).
Who We AreThe Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is made up of approximately 1,300 sworn officers and approximately 800 support personnel. The Police Department was established in 1922, and today is responsible for providing service to a County with a population of over one million people.
Who We Are Looking ForThis position is for current Montgomery County employees who work in the Montgomery County Police Communications Division.
This position requires the ability to work rotating shift work, work holidays, and work mandatory overtime in a 24/7 environment.
Due to the key job responsibilities, this position is not qualified to telework and is an in-person, on-site position only.
This position is essential and will require working during all types of weather.
Responsibilities- Supervising daily operation of a shift of PSECS working in a 24/7 mission critical environment in three operational areas, multiple-discipline 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency, call taking, law enforcement dispatch, and Fire/EMS dispatch.
- Live monitoring of call taking and dispatching to ensure proper handling.
- Addressing minor complaints from employees and the public.
- Responding to employee questions about situations not covered by SOP’s, interpreting existing guidelines to provide appropriate courses of action.
- Communicating new policies/procedures and special operations/events to employees.
- Coordinating schedule adjustments for employees, as needed and acting on leave requests; developing and implementing overtime sign‑up schedule and updating daily schedule assignments, coordinating daily assignment rotations, breaks and mealtimes, to ensure sufficient staffing is maintained to meet operational needs, and authorizing overtime assignments.
- Providing coaching, mentoring, and career development for employees; recommending employees for training and career development opportunities.
- Conducting quality assurance reviews of call taking/dispatching recordings to maintain quality control.
- Evaluating and counselling employees regarding their work performance, reviewing and approving employees’ timecards and use of leave.
- Performing mid‑year and annual reviews for assigned employees.
- Providing recommendations concerning special employee recognition and disciplinary measures.
- Making referral as needed to the ECC Social Worker.
- Ensuring assigned employees are current with all required certifications, licensures and trainings.
- Ensuring all safety requirements are followed.
- Monitoring the adjustment of training of new employees and monitoring Communications Training Officers in their performance and interactions with trainees.
- Interviewing and evaluating applicants for various positions, as well as providing hiring recommendations to higher authority.
- Ensuring inquiries from police, fire/rescue, regulatory agencies, and citizens are promptly and correctly addressed.
- Maintaining personnel call take and dispatch skill levels; providing back‑up 9‑1‑1 call taking as needed to maintain timeliness standards.
- Maintaining and monitoring electronic communication with multiple municipalities, surrounding jurisdictions, County agencies, fire/rescue units, patrol and specialized law enforcement officers operating across over 200 radio talk groups.
- Supervising communications support for major events/disasters between police, fire/rescue, and other public safety agencies.
