Inpatient Coding Specialist – Adventist Health Care
Adventist Health Care seeks an experienced Inpatient Coding Specialist for our Medical Coding Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing.
Responsibilities- Utilize computerized encoder and other systems related to completing the coding process.
- Apply coding processes across all facilities in accordance with regulatory guidelines, appropriateness of care, and statistical data code capture.
- Prioritize and organize coding work activities to meet deadlines and organizational goals.
- Maintain quality targets and production standards according to organization policies.
- Accurately abstract inpatient accounts required for hospital reporting to federal, state, and organizational outlets.
- Maintain and increase personal knowledge and education to stay current with coding industry evolving trends.
- Adhere to official coding guidelines and standards of Ethical Coding, as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association for data collection, assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis and PCS Procedure codes and other applicable coding classifications.
- Revenue Integrity, resolving coding and documentation issues that are related to reimbursement, compliance, and hospital revenue strategic planning.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of available documentation within the medical record.
- Authors/create and identify physician query opportunities to clarify documentation and inconsistencies within the documentation.
- Monitors and reports documentation discrepancies to the coding manager to assist with final coded data efforts.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Formal education in Health Information Management or a related field.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), and/or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential.
- Pass an inpatient coding assessment prior to hiring.
- Extended periods of time seated at a desk or in meetings.
- Occasional travel to AHC hospitals and support center for meetings, learning sessions, work groups, and in the event of workstation or system downtime coder is required to work on site at a location designated by the coding manager.
- Must be able to travel in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for this position.
- Ability to visit Adventist Health Care entities as needed for Physician rounding and engagement.
- This position offers a hybrid work schedule
, combining remote flexibility with in-office collaboration. - Candidates must reside within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area to ensure availability for required onsite days at our Support Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
