Job Title: Information Governance Product Manager

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

ASSYST is seeking an experienced Information Governance Product Manager to lead the rollout and adoption of a data classification and governance framework at the enterprise level. This role will ensure sensitive and business-critical data is properly categorized, protected, and managed in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards. As the product owner, you will collaborate with IT, Security, Legal, Compliance, and business units to translate requirements into scalable solutions.

You will also oversee the implementation of Microsoft 365 compliance and information protection technologies, driving adoption and operational effectiveness.

• Define and manage the strategy, vision, and roadmap for enterprise data governance initiatives.
• Translate regulatory, business, and legal requirements into actionable product features.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to establish classification frameworks, policies, and taxonomy standards.
• Maintain and prioritize the product backlog, balancing compliance obligations and business needs.
• Deploy and optimize tools such as Microsoft Purview and Microsoft 365 Compliance solutions.
• Configure and maintain sensitivity labels, DLP policies, retention settings, and other protection mechanisms.
• Build governance structures and processes that support consistent enterprise-wide adoption.
• Deliver reporting and dashboards to monitor adoption, compliance posture, and program performance.
• Lead change management efforts, including communication, training, and awareness campaigns.
• Collect feedback and usage data to continuously improve the program.

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field.
• Proven experience as a Product Manager or Product Owner in data governance, compliance, or security.
• Strong knowledge of data classification, retention, and lifecycle management practices.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365 Compliance Center, and Information Protection solutions.
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as HIPAA, GDPR, NIST, PCI-DSS, CCPA, or CJIS.
• Ability to partner with IT and Security teams to deliver enterprise implementations.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong analytical skills, including experience with Power BI or similar reporting tools.
• Preferred certifications: PMP, CIPP, CIPT, or other relevant data governance/security credentials.
• Bonus:
  Familiarity with Microsoft security tools such as Entra and Defender.
