Position: Research Scientist (PREP0003687)

PREP Research Associate

This position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. NIST recognizes that its research staff may wish to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest. Therefore, such institutions must be recipients of a PREP award. The program requires staff from diverse backgrounds to work on scientific research across many areas.

Employees in this position will perform technical work supporting the scientific research of the collaboration.

Research Title: Staff Scientist

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading projects within the NIST Genome Editing Program as a molecular and cell biologist.
  • Supporting the development and characterization of measurement methods, control materials, and data analysis approaches for genome editing samples.
  • Leading research on assay development, reagent characterization, and the development of genomic measurements, standards, and control datasets.
  • Developing wet-lab procedures for quantitative measurements of genome editing outcomes in mammalian cells.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to identify opportunities for assay and standards development.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records.
  • Presenting research findings through reports, manuscripts, and oral presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, DNA/RNA handling, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and Illumina sequencing.
  • Experience leading independent projects or teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
