The Finisher in the Commercial Drywall Division is responsible for preparing and finishing drywall surfaces to a smooth, paint-ready condition. This includes taping, coating, sanding, and texturing drywall installations. The Finisher ensures surfaces are completed to project specifications with attention to quality, efficiency, and safety.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Prepare drywall surfaces by taping joints and applying compound.
- Must have personal hand tools (taping knives, broad knives, mud pan).
- Sand and smooth drywall surfaces between coats to ensure an even finish.
- Apply texture finishes using spray or hand application methods.
- Inspect finished surfaces for quality and correct any imperfections.
- Ensure all work complies with job specifications and safety standards.
- Maintain and clean tools and equipment used in drywall finishing.
- Communicate with supervisors and team members to ensure workflow is maintained.
- Assist with job site cleanup and material handling as needed.
- Support other trades or team members during critical project phases.
- Be able to identify imperfections and perform touch‑ups and corrections during final paint and punch list phase.
- Installation of acoustical and fire‑rated caulking at drywall partitions.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors or project managers.
- Strong knowledge of drywall finishing techniques and tools.
- Ability to produce high‑quality finishes with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and precision in all aspects of work.
- Good time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and use of PPE.
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment- Exposure to dust, drywall particles, and fumes from finishing products.
- Work in confined spaces or at heights on ladders and scaffolding.
- Indoor environments with fluctuating temperatures depending on the phase of construction.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
- Regularly required to stand, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Use of hands and arms to apply finishing materials and operate tools.
- Visual acuity to assess quality and completeness of surface finishes.
This is a full‑time position. Hours of work vary from job site to job site based on the contractor’s schedule. Overtime or weekend work may be required based on project deadlines.
TravelTravel is typically local to assigned job sites.
RequiredEducation and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial drywall finishing.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required at hire.
Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
Work Authorization- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Some positions may require U.S. citizenship based on project or contract requirements.
