Social Worker, Social and Emotional Support Services Unit, 0.5 FTE
Under general supervision of the Supervisor for Social and Emotional Support Services Unit, this professional will serve as a liaison between the program, school personnel, families, and outside resources. They will provide intensive counseling to students placed in the school programs for significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, assisting them with academic learning by identifying and addressing social‑emotional environmental issues that interfere with the educational process.
Job Specific Information
- LCSW‑C certification required.
- 0.5 FTE, 10‑month position with 10 summer days.
- Middle school students with significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges requiring intensive special education services.
- Direct and indirect counseling, crisis intervention, social skills groups, inter‑agency collaboration, implementation of IEP.
- Must have strong collaboration skills and experience in crisis intervention (e.g., emergency evaluation petitions).
- Salary range: $32,295 – $65,736 based on education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of MCPS and local agencies providing services to youth and families.
- Excellent clinical knowledge and skills working with students experiencing significant social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations related to special education in general and serious emotional disabilities specifically.
- Ability to assist in developing and monitoring individualized education programs (IEPs) that include appropriate social skills, behavioral, and academic goals.
- Familiarity with surface management strategies, as needed.
- Excellent human relations, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams and function effectively in multiple environments.
Education, Training & Experience
- Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of five (5) years paid experience working with students with emotional/behavioral needs.
- Demonstrated successful use of clinical skills with such students and/or their families, other programs, and agencies.
- Valid license issued by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners at the LCSW‑C level.
