Primary responsibilities

Conduct local needs assessments and labor market data analyses to ensure program offerings and services are aligned with community and industry needs.

Identify, develop, and implement workforce and community education offerings based on local needs, both credit and non-credit, including, but not limited to: workshops, seminars, trips, youth camps, customized courses and short-term trainings.

Create, maintain and provide necessary program documentation, contracts, pay sheets, expense requests, requests for pay, fiscal records and reports.

Carry out grant required activities as determined by grants managed within or associated with the department.

Manage departmental grant deliverables and complete all required programmatic and financial reporting in a timely manner.

Act as a liaison between the College and workforce development partners, representing the College at workforce development meetings, employer site visits, and events.

Collect and report student progress and assessment information for workforce and community education programs. Utilize assessment information for evaluation of programmatic improvement. Assist in the strategic planning process and systematic program review.

Support the development of a Credit for Prior Learning process in collaboration with internal staff and faculty.

Make presentations to appropriate groups and periodically report workforce and community education updates to College Leadership and Administration.

Attend all required meetings, trainings, and seminars.

Other Duties as Assigned.

Assist with:

Day-to-day activities of workforce and community education programs and services at Carl Sandburg College.

The design, development, instructor recruitment, scheduling, marketing, participant recruitment, enrollment, participant tracking, fiscal management, data management, and delivery of workforce and community education programs.

Promoting and developing registered apprenticeship programs.

Community relations and marketing.

Economic development initiatives.

Registration and on-site implementation of programs.

Grant reporting related to workforce and community education.

Leading diverse advisory committees.

Risk-management and loss-prevention activities

Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the college risk-management program in a capacity appropriate to this position.

Monitor conditions, events and circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff or the general public, and then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or risk-management committee.

Maintain a working knowledge of the college’s emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems, including internal/external call boxes.

Minimum necessary education, skills and experience

Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred.

Community education or workforce development experience preferred.

Working knowledge of computer systems and software.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to work effectively with instructors, vendors, industry partners, and program participants.

Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. Possess strong verbal, written, analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Some evening and/or weekend work and travel may be required.

Must hold a valid driver's license.

The ability to communicate successfully both verbally and in writing with clients without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

Spanish or French proficiency preferred.

Physical requirements to perform job functions

Basic dexterity skills (computer work, telephoning and other office equipment).

General physical effort required includes sitting, bending, reaching and some lifting (20 lbs. or less) and the ability to place a work order for anything over that limit.

Operation of a motor vehicle as required for travel to position responsibilities.
