Responsibilities
- Advise students to make insightful, well-informed decisions regarding careers, academic program selection, course selection and other related concerns
- Provide career counseling services for the academic development and success of students.
- Educate students on course selection to align with interests, abilities, and career goals.
- Conduct student assessments regarding academic skill level, learning styles, career interests, motivations, personality relations, and postsecondary entry.
- Assist with the transition to high school and subsequently the transition into postsecondary education.
- Discuss student success strategies and development of study skills.
- Provide academic progress monitoring.
- Assist students with college research and applications.
- Promote career building with resume and cover letter workshops.
- Provide personal advising to students and, when necessary, make referrals to the appropriate agencies.
- Utilize different online resources, organizations, and apps to create new curriculum to best suit the needs of the students and meetings.
- Review and evaluate curriculum and students’ understanding of the material on an annual basis.
- Supervise students at school, during program events on and off campus, and on cultural/educational trips.
- Travel with students during events which may take place during the work day or after hours, on weekends, or over the summer.
- Recruit first-generation and/or income eligible participants.
- Review prospective student applications and conduct interviews.
- Conduct applicant intake interviews and assist with the selection and recruitment of participants.
- Maintain a high level of communication between students, families, high school personnel, and community members.
- Work with the High School Administration, counselors, faculty and staff to administer the program according to the grant proposal and coordinate schedules with the high schools to provide services to students during the school day.
Ensure all participant records are accurate, located in secure cabinets in locked offices, on a secure server that is backed up nightly, and in compliance with annual reporting requirements.
- Coordinate student activities in compliance with TRIO Upward Bound regulations as stated in the grant proposal.
- Provide students and families with financial literacy and aid in the FAFSA completion process.
- Plan college visits and campus orientations for students and parents to familiarize them with academic requirements of institutions of higher education.
