Essential Functions

* Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies and procedures governing employee and individuals in custody.

* Directs and evaluates program responsibility.

* Plans and directs facility budget.

* Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel and other agencies regarding care and custody of individuals in custody.

* Serves as full-line supervisor.

* Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment and grounds for safety, security, sanitation, efficiency, maintenance and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.

* Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and Department of Corrections.

* Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

* Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.

* Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public law enforcement organization, a private law enforcement organization, a correctional facility, or related field.

Conditions of Employment

* Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires an appropriate, valid driver's license.

* Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.

* Requires the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws

* Requires the ability to be on-call.

* Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.

* Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

* Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.

* This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public.

All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.

* Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
