Position: Felony and Juvenile Assistant State’s Attorney Positions Open

Description

We are seeking skilled and passionate candidates to join our work family. We currently have two full‑time opportunities in the office. The first is an Assistant State’s Attorney to cover the Juvenile courtroom. This will include both Juvenile Abuse and Neglect cases, as well as Juvenile Delinquency cases. This attorney is in court primarily two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The ideal candidate will have at least a year of experience practicing law, with a strong preference for prior experience in prosecution. We are open to hiring the position on an entry level basis, however. This attorney has the narrowest focus and the smallest caseload of all of our litigations attorneys in the office. There is opportunity to gain experience with traffic, misdemeanor, and felony cases, if desired.

The attorney will gain experience with charging and advising local law enforcement on various issues as well.

The second opportunity is for a Felony Assistant State’s Attorney. The felony caseload is diverse and will provide the candidate many opportunities to grow and advance knowledge and skill. A successful candidate must be knowledgeable in trial advocacy, communication, organization, and demonstrate good judgment. A good sense of humor and ability to work with others is an asset. The felony attorney will usually be in court on average two‑to‑three days per week.

The attorney will cover preliminary hearings, gain experience with Grand Jury proceedings, charging, advising law enforcement, jury trials, bench trials, and motion practice.

The office is committed to providing a family‑first and human‑first atmosphere. We care about each other and the people we serve; we work hard but also have a lot of fun together. We place great value in providing the opportunity for our attorneys to grow by providing necessary mentorship. Our existing team of attorneys have many decades of combined experience.

We offer a competitive benefits package that includes a 35‑hour work week (plus periods of being on‑call), eligibility toward student loan forgiveness, ISBA membership, free CLE, vacation, sick leave, upwards of 13 paid holidays per year, paid Annual Bar Admission dues, IMRF pension participation, health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, and other optional benefits.

Requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school;
  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar;
  • Strong legal drafting skills with attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to explain complex legal concepts clearly; and
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also independently managing cases efficiently.
