Public Safety Officer- 3rd shift Main Campus, Tom L. Wilson Blvd., Galesburg

Monitor and maintain the college security program with an emphasis on observing, reporting, and acting in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Patrol campus buildings, taking boiler readings, monitoring traffic and parking lots, preparing accurate and timely incident and accident reports, and responding to emergency calls.
• Respond to emergency calls, participate in emergency response protocols, and serve as a communication link to emergency response personnel.
• Actively monitor the camera system at all Sandburg Campus locations.
• Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the college's emergency response protocols and operate the emergency phone system.
• Escort students, faculty, staff, and campus guests on premise if requested.
• Provide detailed reports of events that occur on the work shift.
• Schedule and coordinate the use of the College's fleet vehicles.
• Service school vans and perform similar maintenance on security vehicles.
• Operate the college switchboard in accordance with switchboard procedures.
• Respond to phone communications from Public Safety supervision when unexpected security needs arise.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating the locking and unlocking of doors, assisting with shipping and receiving, and participating in ongoing training and professional development relevant to position responsibilities.

Requirements:

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Two years of security experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of computer systems and software, including word processing and spreadsheets.
• Good communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
• The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, sex, or race.
• Spanish or French proficiency preferred.

Physical requirements include:

• Capable of lifting 30 pounds and performing arduous work.
• Capable of continuous walking and climbing stairs throughout the campus.
• Subject to outside environmental conditions.
• Vision and hearing with or without correction.
• Sitting for sustained periods of time.

This position is declared security sensitive and will require a background check as a pre-employment qualifier.
