Position Details

Work Hours:

7.5 hours/day

Contract Length: 194 Days

Salary Range: $26,778.00 – $33,393.00

Responsibilities
  • Assists specialist/professional in delivering the educational plan and meeting the goals and objectives of the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for assigned students.
  • Implements daily activity lesson plans and curriculum as developed in the IEP by the appropriate specialist or professional.
  • Maintains appropriate files and records, attaching all supporting documentation and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
  • Operates and cares for classroom equipment and assistive technology used for instruction.
  • Supervises students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, lunch, and field trips.
  • Assists physically challenged students with eating, dressing, personal hygiene, and mobility functions as needed, including self‑help, feeding, personal hygiene, fine/gross motor, and adaptive competencies leading to independence.
  • Provides special medical care needs of students.
  • Provides close supervision for students with behavior problems and supports the teacher's management system.
  • Delivers educational services to children homebound due to health limitations or distance from school.
  • Travels daily between sites and from home to home.
  • Prepares regular and special diet meals; operates choppers, blenders, mixers, and other cooking equipment; adjusts ovens or other cooking equipment as required.
  • Serves meals with attention to portioning, garnishing, and meeting Federal meal requirements.
  • Provides classroom management and promotes a safe, healthy learning environment.
  • Administers emergency first aid services to children.
  • Promotes positive child behavior.
  • Maintains confidentiality in handling student records.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in English.
  • Understands and follows oral and written instructions.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Maintains mental capacity for effective interaction and communication.
  • Maintains physical condition appropriate to performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Understands and respects cultural diversities, including Native American traditional beliefs and practices, of students and families.
Qualifications
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Ability to administer emergency first aid services to children.
  • Ability to promote positive child behavior and a safe, healthy environment.
  • Ability to handle and maintain student records confidentially.
  • Clear communication skills, both oral and written, in English.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Effective mental interaction and communication capacity.
  • Physical condition appropriate to duty performance.
  • Knowledge and respect for cultural diversities and Native American traditional beliefs and practices.
Experience and Education Guidelines
  • Experience:

    Some related experience including public contact is desirable.
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent.
Licensure and Certifications
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Level I Educational Assistant License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit, if required.
Working Conditions
  • Office and field environment.
  • Travel from site to site.
  • Exposure to human body fluids and cleaning/sterilization chemicals.
Physical Conditions
  • On‑site attendance is mandatory for this position.
  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting and repeated bending.
