Position Summary

The University of New Mexico-Gallup is inviting applications for a Lecturer I or II in Welding Technology. This position is at the Gallup Branch, located approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque in the Four Corners region near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation.

UNM-Gallup serves a diverse student population of about 2,200 and employs more than 100 full‑time and part‑time faculty members. The institution is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers Associate degrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificates, adult basic education, workforce training and personal enrichment courses. The college serves multiple high school populations, including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.

As we expand our programs, engage with the community, and establish new endowments and grant opportunities, we are hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty. Lecturers at UNM-Gallup have clear career advancement pathways outlined in the UNM Faculty Handbook and the faculty union collective bargaining agreement.

The successful candidate will teach a 27‑credit hour course load per year in Welding Technology, maintain an active service record (as defined by the UA‑UNM CBA), participate in monthly division meetings, and execute other relevant duties in collaboration with the division chair under an annual faculty‑chair agreement. The candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through inclusive behavior and proactive bias management.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
  • American Welding Society (AWS)

    Certifications:
    • Shielded Metal Arc Welding – AWS D1.1 (A5.1 and A5.5) structural welding, all positions
    • Flux‑Core Arc Welding (Duel Shield) – AWS D1.1 (A5.20) structural welding, all positions
    • API 1104 or ASME B31. Pipe welding OR
    • Eligibility to become certified
  • Five years of trades experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate‑level degree in Welding Technology or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at a branch/community college or similar institution
  • Experience teaching welding technology at the secondary level
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
