Position Summary
PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM. Funding available through 08/31/2026; continuance beyond that date is subject to the department's operational needs as outlined in APPM Policy #3200, Employee Classification.
The University of New Mexico has established branch colleges to serve the citizens of New Mexico and to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post‑secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities.
TRIO/Upward Bound is a federally funded program focused on providing opportunities for first‑generation and low‑income students, and students with disabilities to succeed in their pre‑college performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. TRIO/Upward Bound at UNM‑Gallup campus is a dynamic and diverse program seeking a motivated and customer focused Education Support Coordinator to join a team of professionals dedicated to creating pathways for college preparation and access for secondary school students.
This position is essential for service delivery, student support, and overall program success. The Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director in providing administrative and academic support, coordinating and marketing academic programming, and assisting with program events, trips, workshops and other outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of the Upward Bound academic year and summer program component
- Develop promotional and marketing materials, educational information, newsletters and brochures
- Develop and maintain records and databases on student and program activities, materials, equipment and supplies; maintain documentation of students’ progress as well as alumni tracking
- Oversee participant application process; communicate with prospective participants, parents, school counselors and other stakeholders
- Monitor and reconcile program fiscal services, including purchasing activities and student stipends
- Collaborate with Outreach Advisors to identify non‑academic needs of program participants
- Connect participants to appropriate resources, track use of coordinated services, and provide specific referral services
- Develop and facilitate workshops on a variety of topics
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Associate degree or higher
- Demonstrated experience in assisting at‑risk students and families
- Demonstrated experience interviewing students experiencing personal and academic issues
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and organizing education programs, meetings, and/or special events
- Demonstrated administrative support experience, including purchasing, database management, record keeping and fiscal support
