SummaryUnder general supervision, to manage and support district-wide systems to ensure smooth operation of departmental functions and; to perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsSystem Operator II-This is the full journey level class within the System Operator series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the System Operator I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned including the maintenance of the Student Information System and Record Archiving Systems. The employee at this level will also provide technical support to each school site and district offices as needed.
Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed or when filled from the outside, have prior experience.
Monitor and audit the student information and/or staff information databases for errors in data entry;
Develop checklists, data audits, and methodology to assist in correction and elimination of errors.
- Keep the student information system updated including system or state reporting updates. Review system updates for possible issues and provide input on the deployment of system updates.
- Develop, design, and distribute reports as needed from the student and staff information system.
- Support the transfer of student and staff information to educational, student assessment, and staff evaluation systems.
- Create STARS templates, edit templates for missing or errant data, submit files to STARS and troubleshoot all errors associated with NM State Reporting.
- Provide support relating to STARS requirements, calculating FTE's, graduation requirements, or licensing etc.
Knowledge of:
Operation of a PC terminal and keyboard. Word processing programs, spreadsheets. Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers. Uses of computer directories in relationship to computer systems. Procedures of computer program security.
Ability to:
Operate appropriate personal computer and/or network system, and related peripherals and appropriate software. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities. Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Experience:
Three years of responsible computer operation experience. - Education Required:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by coursework in computer science or a related field. - Education Preferred:
Equivalent to an Associates degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computer technology, or a related field is desirable.
Knowledge of:
Database architecture and formula development. Basic computer networking design and operations. Operations, services and activities of a school district data processing program. Modern and complex principles and practices of application design and development. Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to:
Oversee assigned computer areas. Troubleshoot a variety of computer operating problems. Organize and review the work of staff. Assist and train users in the operation of PC and mainframe hardware and software. Interpret and explain District policies and procedures. Prepare clear and concise reports. Prepare analytical and statistical reports, and interpret data.
Only years of experience that is directly related to STARS reporting will be considered for salary placement.
Physical RequirementsAbility to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required:
Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
