Qualifications

ATHLETIC COACHING LICENSE, 7-12

High School Diploma or Equivalency

AND Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (from the New Mexico Public Education Department) and complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).).

Additional Requirements

Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.

Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports).

The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and continually examine new theories and procedures relevant to the field.

The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.

Reports To

The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.

Work Environment

On-site attendance is mandatory for this position.

Supervises

The head coach must advise, coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.

Job Goal

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Also to promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment, and to upgrade knowledge through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. Work with students interested in sports, provide practice support and guidance for a team to be successful against opponents.

Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
