The City of Galt is accepting applications for the Electrical and Instrumentation Technician position.

Base Pay: Effective July 1, 2025 - $35.73 - $43.85;
Effective July 1, 2026 - 8.65% base salary increase;
Effective July 1, 2027 - 8.65% base salary increase.

ADDITIONAL PAY (UPON ASSIGNMENT AND ELIGIBILITY):

• Longevity Pay - beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; 15 years, 7.5%.
• Bilingual Pay - $100 per month.
• Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive City medical coverage receive $200/month for employee only, $350/month for employee + one, and $500/month for family.
• Incentives - up to 2.5% - 10%.

• Holiday Pay - 14 holidays; 13 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday. Performs highly skilled electrical/instrumentation installation, repair, maintenance, and modification work; may assign, direct, and review the work of staff engaged in electrical/instrumentation tasks. Receives direction from the Utilities Maintenance Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

This is a single-incumbent position that performs specialized electrical technician duties and provides technical instruction and expertise to other staff. Incumbents are expected to act independently and keep supervisors apprised of work needs, time, and materials. They provide functional and technical direction to staff as part of routine work and are fully trained in procedures related to the assigned area.

• Inspects, installs, repairs, maintains, calibrates, tests, and troubleshoots electrical, mechanical, and other process instrumentation related to the City’s water and wastewater operations.
• Performs preventative maintenance, services and tests equipment, including communications and telemetry systems, SCADA, and PLC software and hardware, per schedule; performs minor software adjustments.
• Inspects facilities and equipment to determine maintenance needs; develops a preventative maintenance schedule for instrumentation equipment.
• Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs automated telemetry equipment including calibration of input sensors and monitoring equipment.
• Calibrates equipment and instruments on a routine schedule and after repairs; performs unscheduled repairs as required.
• Reads and interprets electrical and electronic schematics, mechanical and instrumentation drawings, and related diagrams to install, service, and repair equipment.
• Uses and maintains a variety of tools and test equipment; calibrates equipment as required; assists in reading gauges and meters for process control.
• Assists in maintaining an inventory of materials, tools, and supplies; requisitions materials as required.
• Maintains and calibrates critical equipment for facility safety, including detectors and safety alarms.
• Collaborates with operations staff to identify problems and propose solutions.
• Attends training and safety sessions; follows safety procedures and applicable codes.
• Operates a standard vehicle to travel to multiple locations and perform tasks at each site.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
