. This position focuses on kidney/pancreas transplant surgery and provides faculty support to meet the teaching, research, and patient care needs of the Department of Surgery, Section of Transplant Surgery, and UTMB’s threefold mission. The person in this position is responsible for providing direct patient care, including surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, and care of hospitalized patients. He/she participates in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching and rounds;
house staff supervision in the operating room, clinics, and in-patient services; continuing medical education; and local, regional, and national meetings. Students include medical students, house staff, nursing, and allied health students. He/she is also responsible for advancing clinical knowledge through his/her scholarly and research efforts and will participate in either basic research (laboratory) or clinical research and publication of scientific articles.
In addition, the person in this position will have administrative responsibilities including supervising and evaluating residents, providing medical direction, and participating in committee memberships at the departmental and health system level.
- Provide direct patient care, including surgery, consultative services, outpatient services, and care of hospitalized patients, with a kidney/pancreas focus in Transplant surgery.
- Participate in all teaching activities of the Department including conferences and lectures, bedside teaching and rounds; supervise house staff in the operating room, clinics, and inpatient services; contribute to continuing medical education; and participate in local, regional, and national meetings.
- Engage medical students, house staff, nursing, and allied health students in teaching activities.
- Advance clinical knowledge through scholarly and research efforts; participate in either basic research (laboratory) or clinical research and publication of scientific articles.
- Assume administrative responsibilities including supervising and evaluating residents, providing medical direction, and participating in committee memberships at the departmental and health system level.
Candidates should be a graduate of an approved medical school, have completed an approved residency training program, be Board Certified or Board Eligible (BC/BE) in Transplant Surgery, and have a Texas Medical license without restrictions.
