Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved school of Respiratory Therapy with a Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Care or related healthcare specialty and three (3) years of experience in respiratory care, including at least two (2) years of critical care experience.
  • OR five (5) years of related experience, including at least three (3) years of recent critical care experience.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and maintain credentials with the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Must have one (1) specialty credential (e.g., RRT‑ACCS, NPS, RPFT, RPSGT, LNFA) or obtain it within six (6) months of becoming a Senior Respiratory Therapist, and maintain it thereafter.
  • Must have current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Job Description

Highly knowledgeable and skilled in respiratory care and assessment. Provides competent basic and specialty care using an interdisciplinary approach, individualizing care to meet unique patient needs, and effectively managing unexpected emergency situations. Serves as a preceptor for new employees and respiratory care students.

Specific Job Related Duties
  • Assess the respiratory care needs of patients.
  • Utilize experience and skills to identify and review patient diagnoses and care needs, including contraindications and possible complications, especially during pulmonary function testing.
  • Proficient in pulmonary function testing (spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion, arterial blood gases, cardiopulmonary exercising testing, six‑minute walks, respiratory pressures, bronchoprovocation, impedance oscillometry, etc.) following department policies.
  • Manage unexpected emergency situations effectively.
  • Maintain and calibrate analyzers, perform quality control, participate in CAP surveys and inspections.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of the department team.
  • Participate in department meetings, audits, trainings, quality management, inventory control, and policy/procedure updates.
  • Demonstrate initiative and engage in continual learning and constructive feedback.
  • Preceptor for new employees and respiratory care students within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in bronchoscopy and interventional pulmonary services, including assistance, scheduling, orientation, scope maintenance, equipment proficiency, and documentation.
  • Manage time effectively and flex schedule as required for patient care.
  • Adhere to the assigned work schedule, annual training requirements, internal controls, and institutional policies.
Salary

$31.25 – $50.00 per hour; salary commensurate with experience.

Shift Differentials
  • Evening: $2.70 per hour
  • Night: $3.50 per hour
  • Weekend: $0.90 per hour
