Required Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of EMT – Paramedic program or graduation from a related allied health sciences program or one year of related experience. Passing score of 80% or higher on UTMB’s arrhythmia test.

Job Summary

To provide specialized advanced technical skills in all technical aspects of the telemetry monitoring system.

Essential Job Functions

• Operates and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system.
• Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
• Adjusts alarms.
• Reviews trends and alarms.
• Cleans and maintains telemetry monitors/holders and accounts for monitor upon patient discharge.
• Accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
• Orders monitoring supplies.
• Obtains and documents rhythm strips per unit/department standards.
• Maintains logbook on all monitored patients.
• Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic Central Station.
• Interprets EKG rhythms.
• Recognizes significant EKG events.
• Communicates information to the responsible individual within an appropriate time frame.
• Immediately reports significant or life‑threatening changes to an RN.
• Participates in orienting and teaching of nursing staff, physicians and students as related to monitoring equipment.
• Assists with maintenance of unit equipment.
• Performs daily quality checks of freestanding cardio‑defibrillators.
• Maintains a safe environment.
• Ensures that equipment has current electrical and maintenance inspections.
• Reports all malfunctioning equipment.
• Provides age‑appropriate interaction and care as indicated.
• Uses aseptic techniques and infection control measures in performance of duties.
• Recognizes patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crisis.
• Respects and supports patient / family rights.
• Practices positive guest and peer relations.
• Participates in and supports quality improvement activities.
• Demonstrates acceptable productivity and practices cost containment.
• Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member.
• Participates in and promotes the development of self and others.
• Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Salary Range

Salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule

Night shift.
