Nurse Manager - Gastroenterology Endoscopy (Galveston)

Minimum Qualifications- Registered Nurse (RN) with a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Five (5) years of clinical experience, including two (2) years of progressive management experience such as Charge Nurse, Nursing Supervisor, Nurse Administrator, or Assistant Nurse Manager.
- Valid Texas nursing license or permit.
- Certification in nursing specialty or administration.

The Nurse Manager is accountable for the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient care for specific patient care unit(s) on a 24-hour basis. This includes oversight for clinical operations, human resources, finance, and quality management.
Job Duties Clinical Operations- Develop work processes and systems to facilitate excellent patient care outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Facilitate communication and ensure proper flow of information.
- Oversee patient flow in patient care and support areas.
- Ensure operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment without jeopardizing patient care.
- Investigate any patient care and/or administrative problems and keep lines of communication open with directors, managers, and staff to ensure high employee morale and a professional, safe care environment.
- Partner with service-wide leadership to interpret policies and operational procedures, resolving staffing and resource utilization issues.
- Monitor and evaluate patient care processes and outcomes on the unit(s).
- Facilitate shared governance at the unit level and throughout Nursing Service.
- Represent UTMB in relationships with other health organizations, professional organizations, government, and accrediting agencies.
- Collaborate with leaders from local institutions of higher education to support a learning environment for students.
- Partner with professional colleagues on research involving patients as study subjects.
- Support staff during the development, implementation, and utilization of information systems that impact patient care.
- Identify internal controls for the department and enforce compliance.
- Communicate with nursing staff at all levels professionally.
- Provide leadership and direction for unit staff while supporting department, division, service, hospital, and university goals.
- Recruit and retain competent, compassionate staff, monitoring performance standards and promoting fair labor practices.
- Promote a work environment that demonstrates caring through safe equipment and adequate supplies.
- Achieve performance outcomes by engaging nursing staff.
- Lead by example, implementing management techniques that attract and retain staff.
- Mentor staff and objectively evaluate performance, taking corrective action as appropriate.
- Complete employee performance evaluations on schedule.
- Ensure the highest quality care is available, meeting national, state, and local standards and voluntary accreditation standards of the JCAHO.
- Provide and develop professional leadership at the unit level.
- Encourage and support staff development.
- Maintain professional affiliations and stay current with healthcare trends.
- Work closely with the Director, Patient Care to project and prepare annual operating budgets.
- Monitor fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures while adjusting staffing patterns to improve productivity.
- Seek direction to facilitate plans that enhance revenue and reduce costs.
- Review departmental productivity reports and develop variance summaries for senior leadership.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement and risk management programs at the unit level.
- Monitor patient care operations and initiate appropriate changes as needed.
- Ensure nursing policies are consistent with the Texas Nurse Practice Act and other legal mandates.
- Support quality programs including patient satisfaction, nurse satisfaction, National Patient Safety Goals, Joint Commission requirements, and specialty quality standards.
- Demonstrate transparency with clinical staff regarding clinical indicators.
