Laboratory Technician – CGI (Coastal Gulf & International)
Job Purpose: Lab Technicians perform routine laboratory tests under close supervision to determine chemical or physical characteristics of samples. They ensure duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality in a timely manner.

- Reports to: Lab Manager
- Level: Individual Contributor
- Classification: Non-exempt
- Status: Regular Full Time
- Perform basic analytical tests based on standards and procedures as assigned by the Laboratory Manager.
- Assist and perform the setting up, adjusting and operating laboratory equipment.
- Calibrate laboratory instruments as needed to ensure accurate analysis according to the Quality Management systems.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
- Understand and complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into LIMS database.
- Read and comprehend all analysis as well as safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory.
- Exercise procedural, safety and quality requirements specified in Laboratory Manual & Safety Manual and company policies.
- All other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related science preferred, or equivalent work experience; coupled with a minimum of one (2) year of direct transferable experience working in a laboratory.
- Knowledgeable in ASTM standards.
- Must be able to work with all chemical, petrochemical and petroleum products.
- Must be able to differentiate between colors accurately by sight.
- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience preferred.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access preferred.
- Have a great work history with a track record of being a responsible individual.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment.
Travel is not required for this position.
Working ConditionsThis position is performed in a laboratory environment.
Physical Requirements- Required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist body to fit and/or reach.
- The employee’s lifting requirement and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to work in the presence of odors typical of petroleum or petrochemicals without allergic reactions or nausea, when such odors are within OSHA-designated permissible exposure limits (PELs).
- May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
