Boatswain

* Maintains a safe working environment.
* Trains cadets on safety procedures and assists chief mate with safety meetings and job safety analysis.
* Ensures safety and security in all aspects of tasks assigned to cadets.
* Assists with compliance of safety equipment inspections, the USCG regulations, and annual certificate of inspection preparations.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* High School or GED.
* Five years of maritime experience aboard seafaring vessel.
* Must have a State issued class “C” vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
* Must have a passport, TWIC card and Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire or before the training ship sails.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
* Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
* Working knowledge of deck machinery and equipment.
* This position is security sensitive
* This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
* All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
* This is a shipboard assignment onboard our training vessel, you will be required to travel with the vessel during shipyard period, vessel activations, and annual summer sea term. Approximately 30-40 percent of year. Ability to lift, move, pull, and/or push heavy objects. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends. Must pass a United States Coast Guard (USCG)/Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). test prior to employment and participate in the University’s random drug testing program.
