Police Officer

Position Summary: The purpose of this job is to obtain basic training and understanding in municipal law enforcement principles and procedures. Under the direction of the Garden City Police Department, the police recruit will be responsible for attending, participating, and successfully completing an approved Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Council (P.O.S.T.) Basic Law Enforcement Training Program. The police recruit will move to the position of police officer upon graduation from the Police Academy.

Must be age 21 or older;
High School Diploma or equivalent, college preferred but not required;
Must possess or be able to attain by the time of hire, a valid Georgia driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. Must meet the minimum qualifications as identified by Georgia Code Annotated Sections 35-8-8 and 35-8-9 administered by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council. Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR);
Acceptable Criminal Background/Fingerprint Report; and acceptable drug screen required.

Required:

Knowledge of City geography and road system;
Skill in safe operation of motor vehicle;
Skill in making rapid assessment of varying situations and ability to make accurate decisions accordingly;
Skill in first aid applications;
Skill in verbal and written communication;
Skill in the safe and appropriate use of firearms and other weapons of force;
Skill in observing and recalling details accurately.

Schedule:

Full-time with 8 hours per day; paid bi-weekly.
