Mission

Reeves Construction Company is currently seeking an experienced individual for the position of Asphalt Paver Screed Operator based out of our Savannah, GA location. The successful candidate for this role will have an uncompromising focus on safety excellence. The Asphalt Paver Screed Operator’s primary function is to adjust the screed height on the paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade and finish.

The operator is also responsible for ensuring the consistency of the asphalt mat and the overall ride quality of the finished pavement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ability to correctly set up the paver screed and lay a uniform thickness.
  • Accurate and working knowledge of the paver screed (e.g., correct speed, check material coming out of truck, straight lines).
  • Ability to take a leadership role on the crew.
  • Willingness and ability to keep the paver and screed maintained and clean.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to operate equipment in a safe and consistent manner.
Qualifications, Education, and Competencies

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age.

Education and/or

Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combinations of education and experience.

Language

Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Demands: Must be able to climb onto and up and down a machine several times a day; sit in the machine and operate it for several hours without stopping; withstand vibration from job site conditions as well as noise from other equipment; use arms, hands, and feet in repetitive motions; perform manual duties such as placing paint drums on the vehicle;

lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Vision requirements: 20/40 or better, with corrective lenses if needed. Hearing should be excellent or corrected by an audio device.

Work Environment: Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles; occasional wet or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually very loud.
