POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Parks Manager to lead the maintenance, care, and continuous improvement of the outdoor spaces that define the Expo Idaho experience. This role oversees all aspects of grounds, landscaping, turf and irrigation systems, hardscapes, and outdoor facility maintenance across the Expo Idaho campus including Ladybird Park and the Park at Expo Idaho.

The Parks Manager provides day‑to‑day leadership for full‑time and seasonal staff, directs the work of contractors, and ensures every outdoor area is safe, welcoming, and maintained to the highest professional standards. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering all maintenance operations, exercising independent judgment in developing work plans, allocating resources, and implementing best practices that support the mission, operational goals, and long‑term vision of Expo Idaho.

In addition to maintaining campus‑wide outdoor assets, the Parks Manager plays an essential role in supporting events and public use, ensuring the grounds are event‑ready and aligned with departmental objectives and safety requirements. This is a dynamic leadership position for someone who takes pride in creating exceptional outdoor environments and fostering a high‑performing maintenance team.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

Under the general supervision of the Director, this position manages all landscape, grounds, and irrigation operations for Expo Idaho and associated parks. The Parks Manager exercises full supervisory responsibility over staff, provides technical and administrative oversight, develops and enforces maintenance standards, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. The role operates with significant independence and authority to plan work, allocate resources, and resolve operational issues.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS Operations Management & Planning
  • Develops annual and seasonal maintenance plans for landscaping, turf, pathways, native habitat areas, irrigation systems, playgrounds, and hardscaped areas;
  • Plans, schedules, and prioritizes work based on weather, seasonal needs, event schedules, staffing levels, and long‑term goals;
  • Establishes and enforces high standards for appearance, plant health, public safety, and environmental sustainability;
  • Monitors conditions of grounds, landscapes, facilities, and functional systems; identifies operational needs and directs corrective action;
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and standards for grounds and parks maintenance;
  • Develops and manages preventative maintenance schedules for irrigation systems, trees, equipment, and park facilities;
  • Provides management and support for maintenance of building and facilities across Expo Idaho campus;
  • Hires, trains, supervises, motivates, and evaluates full‑time and seasonal staff;
  • Ensures staff are trained in proper landscaping, arboriculture, irrigation, safety, equipment operation, and customer service practices;
  • Assigns work, monitors performance, and ensures compliance with department standards, safety protocols, and productivity expectations;
  • Plans and coordinates optimal use of full‑time staff, temporary personnel, Sheriff’s Labor Detail crews, and contractors to meet operational needs;
