Description:
Unit has 32 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4.Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, gastrointestinal bleeding, and acute renal failure.
RNs will titrate drips, including analgesics for pain, anticoagulants for blood clots, and antihypertensives for blood pressure control.
The unit does not have tele/monitor techs; RNs are required to read their own strips.
Charge nurse does take an assignment.
Nurse aids are available on the unit with a ratio of 1:5.Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and vents.
Self-scheduling and block scheduling are permitted.
Full-time and part-time employees are expected to self-schedule a minimum of six weekend shifts within a six-week schedule.
Holiday requirements are mandatory.
Floating may be required based on departmental needs.
The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.
Unit-specific orientation will be assigned during the orientation week.
The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment.
The charting system used is EPIC.
