Job Description

Northwestern Mutual, Garden City

Financial Representative

Northwestern Mutual’s Garden City office is seeking disciplined, coachable, growth-oriented professionals who want to build a long-term career in financial planning and client advising.

This is not a traditional salaried corporate role. It is a professional development environment designed for individuals who want to build a respected practice, develop meaningful client relationships, and grow into a business owner and trusted advisor over time.

Our advisors work with individuals, families, and business owners to create long-term financial plans centered around protection, wealth accumulation, retirement planning, investment management, and legacy planning. More importantly, they build careers grounded in trust, consistency, professionalism, and impact.

The people who tend to thrive in our office are emotionally mature, highly coachable, self-directed, and willing to stay consistent through difficult early growth. Many come from backgrounds in athletics, leadership, education, business development, sales, entrepreneurship, or other performance-oriented environments.

What the First Year Looks Like

The first year is demanding, developmental, and highly relationship driven. Success in this career requires consistency, accountability, and the ability to stay committed through repetition, prospecting activity, and skill development.

You will not be expected to figure it out alone.

Our Garden City office provides a structured development environment that includes:

• One-on-one mentorship

• Weekly coaching and accountability

• Professional development sessions

• Licensing and exam support

• Real-time field development

• Structured business planning

• A clear progression path through your first ninety days and beyond

We believe strong advisors are developed intentionally over time through coaching, repetition, standards, and real-world experience.

What We Look For

This career may be a strong fit for someone who:

• Builds trust and relationships naturally

• Follows through consistently on commitments

• Responds well to coaching and accountability

• Wants meaningful autonomy and ownership over time

• Is motivated by growth, challenge, and professional development

• Is resilient under pressure and willing to work through discomfort

• Wants to build a long-term career rather than simply find another job

You do not need prior experience in finance to succeed here. Many successful advisors in our office began their careers in entirely different industries. What matters more is discipline, consistency, professionalism, and the willingness to learn.

Licensing and Development

Northwestern Mutual sponsors licensing and professional development, including:

• NYS Life, Accident & Health licensing

• Securities Industry Essentials (SIE)

• Series 6 or Series 7

• Series 63

• Ongoing professional education and credential development

Compensation and Career Path

This is a commission-based career with startup support available during the early stages of development. The role is designed for individuals seeking long-term upside, professional independence, and the opportunity to build an enduring practice over time.

Successful advisors who remain committed to the process often build:

• Long-term client relationships

• Significant professional autonomy

• Respected community presence

• A credentialed advisory practice

• Leadership and mentorship opportunities

• Meaningful income growth tied directly to performance and consistency

Why Northwestern Mutual

The company is recognized for:

• Industry-leading financial strength

• Long-term stability

• Nationally recognized training and development
