Lead Payroll Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Accountant is responsible for Southland’s financial recordkeeping including recording financial transactions, managing accounts and account reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This position also provides a higher level of customer service to both internal departments and external customers.

• Assist Accounting Manager to oversee and monitor daily operations of assigned areas ensuring accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls
• Maintain knowledge of best practices, and current and proposed legislation and regulation; recommend changes to accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency
• Works with the accounting manager on appropriate fiscal strategies for the organization
• Lead departmental projects to include change/implementation of new policies and procedures
• Complete month-end and fiscal year-end financial reports
• Reviews/completes analysis of complex accounting issues

• Excellent organization skills with high level of attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate across all levels
• Must be analytical, innovative, and decisive; able to analyze and resolve complex issues
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• High level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, etc. required
• Process orientation with a focus on quality and efficiency
• Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred
• 7+ years of accounting experience preferred

Pay: Final pay is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. For California, this ranges from $80,000.00-$90,000.00 plus annual incentive, benefits and retirement program as outlined above.
