Data Cable - GARDNER, MA 01440, Salary Range: $21.00 - $25.00 Hourly
- The Quality Inspector is a manufacturing quality role within a wire and cable production environment.
- This position inspects in-process and finished product to verify conformance to work orders, specifications, workmanship standards, and customer requirements.
- The inspector identifies nonconforming product, communicates required adjustments, and verifies rework before release.
- This role works closely with Production and Quality to support consistent quality, traceability, and on-time delivery.
- Perform in-process and final inspections of wire and cable products.
- Conduct visual and dimensional checks for workmanship, construction, surface condition, diameter, and other required characteristics.
- Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and approved test equipment to verify product conformance.
- Verify item numbers, work orders, reel identification, quantities, labels, and material traceability.
- Review customer workmanship requirements and applicable UL and CSA requirements when specified.
- Approve conforming product and communicate required adjustments to operators or production supervision.
- Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming product; verify rework before release.
- Accurately complete inspection reports, logs, and quality records.
- Maintain measuring equipment in proper condition, verify calibration status, and report equipment concerns to the Quality Manager.
- Communicate recurring defects or process concerns and maintain a clean, organized inspection area.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, specifications, drawings, inspection instructions, and customer requirements.
- Working knowledge of testing, inspection, and measurement practices or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and make consistent quality decisions within established procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality in a production-based environment.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require.
- Strong attention to detail with a quality-focused mindset.
- Technical and numerical skills for measurements, calculations, and data recording.
- Problem-solving skills to identify defects and know when escalation is required.
- Planning and organizational skills to manage multiple inspections and priorities.
- Effective communication skills when working with Production and Quality personnel.
- Ability to multitask and remain accurate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous quality inspection, manufacturing, wire and cable, or related industrial experience is preferred.
- Experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, or other measuring equipment is preferred.
- Knowledge of customer workmanship standards and UL/CSA requirements is preferred.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and work rules.
- Properly use required personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety footwear, and hearing protection as required.
- Follow lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe material-handling requirements.
- Maintain awareness of moving machinery, rotating reels, sharp wire ends, and other manufacturing hazards.
- Immediately report injuries, near misses, unsafe conditions, or equipment damage.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during a shift.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of reels, samples, inspection tools, and product.
- Ability to perform close visual inspections and use precision measuring equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, moving equipment, industrial materials, and required PPE.
