Full Job Description

The Boys & Girls Club of Garfield is seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and dependable Junior Staff to support our after school and summer programs. Junior Staff play a vital role in creating a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children and teens. This position involves assisting with daily activities, helping maintain order and safety, supporting staff in program delivery, and fostering positive relationships with members.

The ideal candidate will be energetic, reliable, and eager to learn, demonstrating a commitment to helping youth succeed while upholding the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club. This role is designed for individuals gaining experience in youth development, program operations, and teamwork.

Responsibilities
  • Assist program staff in supervising children and teens during activities, transitions, and free time.
  • Ensure a safe, structured, and engaging environment for all members at all times.
  • Encourage participation in games, enrichment programs, and social activities.
  • Support positive behavior by reinforcing program rules and modeling respectful interactions.
  • Build positive relationships with members, fostering trust, inclusivity, and personal growth.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and cooperation among members during activities.
  • Help staff set up and clean up materials for crafts, games, and other activities.
  • Assist in distributing materials, equipment, and supplies for program activities.
  • Participate in activities with members to encourage engagement and positive experiences.
  • Support youth in understanding and following activity instructions and safety rules.
  • Follow all Club policies, procedures, and safety guidelines consistently.
  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a positive, professional attitude.
  • Serve as a role model for respectful behavior, teamwork, and adherence to Club values.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining activity areas, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist with light cleaning, sanitation, and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
  • Demonstrate initiative by anticipating staff needs and proactively supporting program operations.
  • Participate in all staff training and meetings
  • Organizes and assists in various small and large group activities
  • Disinfect commonly used items like bathrooms, desks, door handles, office tools, and phones.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

Requirements / Qualifications
  • Age Requirement:
    Must be at least 16 years old
  • Education:

    High school student or equivalent
  • Physical Requirements:

    Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in youth activities; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Background Clearance:
    Successful completion of required background checks, fingerprinting, and compliance with state youth organization requirements.
