Academic English Tutor – GEDU Global Education

Department: Academic/Bath Spa University (BSU), University of Suffolk (UoS), Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), Oxford Brooks University (OBU) and/or Pearson partnerships

Location: Leeds (On-Site)

Salary: £51,000

Contract: Full-Time Permanent (40 hours per week)

Role Overview: We are seeking full‑time Study Skills Lecturers who will work in close collaboration with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills across a range of higher education programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level. The role involves improving English language and numeracy, organizational and presentation skills, digital literacy, basic IT skills, reading, writing, and higher‑order research skills. Flexibility to teach during weekdays, evenings, and weekends is required.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans and individual schemes of work to develop study skills within the curriculum.
  • Delivering and evaluating teaching, identifying areas for improvement to enhance teaching, learning and overall student experience in accordance with the GBS Learning and Teaching strategy.
  • Providing feedback on individual and class progress in academic writing and related study skills.
  • Delivering tutorial consultations with students, giving constructive, individualized feedback, explaining where work fails to meet assessment criteria and suggesting improvement strategies.
  • Recording details from consultations for statistical, evaluation and quality purposes, and referring students to other services as appropriate.
  • Engaging students with VLE and research resources, facilitating learning through online resources and activities.
  • Contributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processes.
About You
  • Master's degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable).
  • Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject area.
  • Successful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmes.
  • Proven experience providing individual and group study skills support in response to identified learning needs.
  • Willingness to lead a specific area of literacy development (e.g., reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, project and dissertation support, peer‑assisted learning).
  • High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skills.
Desirable
  • Expertise in digital educational resources development, course design, and curriculum development.
  • DELTA qualification.
  • Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during probation and complete within three years) or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or international equivalent).
