Pay Range: (Depending on qualifications and experience)
SummaryResponsible for monitoring and analyzing ERCOT markets and GP&L system capabilities to respond to ERCOT real‑time market operational requirements and to dispatch GP&L's generation portfolio. Responsible for daily load projections, resource plans, bilateral trades, ancillary service bids and awards, balancing energy bids, and replacement reserve service bids.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Perform Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) functions including operation of energy market systems providing network analysis, load forecasting, generation dispatch, capacity optimization and bidding.
- Determine generation requirements and issue dispatch instructions to generation portfolio.
- Analyze data to discover patterns and/or discrepancies in market pricing trends, load forecasts, ERCOT systems, and generation capabilities for meeting energy demands.
- Conduct short term purchases and sales of energy, capacity, and ancillary services to meet load forecasts and optimize GP&L’s generation portfolio.
- Monitor weather and market conditions and change dispatch schedules and bids as required.
- Coordinate ERCOT dispatch instructions with generation portfolio operators.
- Perform day‑ahead market activities as required, making any necessary adjustments for resource allocation, bidding, and fuel requirements.
- Support fuel purchases and scheduling by supplying appropriate energy production estimates.
- Call out support staff as needed. Record data in a timely and accurate fashion on appropriate form/log.
- 4‑year college degree and 3 years related experience
- OR 5 years related experience without college degree
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job
- 4‑year college degree in Engineering or related area
- 3–5 years experience in Electric Utility Industry (Generation/Transmission) and/or Gas/Power Marketing
- Knowledge of procedures and methods used in energy market operations
- Knowledge of power plant dispatch operations
- Knowledge of ERCOT and/or NERC operating protocols and guidelines
- Knowledge of Emergency Energy Alert (EEA) and Black Start processes
- Knowledge of power trading, power markets, and generation dispatch economics
- Knowledge of electric generation fuel markets
- Skill in training and monitoring of work
- Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations
- Skill in the use of software and equipment required to dispatch generation facilities
- Skill in analyzing data
- Ability to obtain applicable ERCOT and NERC certifications
- NERC Certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license
