Provides expert care in lactation management according to the ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants. Provides informal and formal staff development learning activities related to breastfeeding management. Serves as an expert consultant to maternal‑child staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals in the management of patients with complex breastfeeding problems. Participates in program development activities. Practices according to the family‑centered maternity care model.
WhatYou Will Do In This Role
- Participates in the development, coordination, managing, facilitating, conducting, and evaluating of onboarding and orientation programs for nursing and other healthcare personnel
- Conducts orientation in a manner that facilitates a positive learning environment. Incorporates organizational values/culture into the orientation process
- Identifies learning needs of staff and assesses practice gaps, comparing competencies to actual practice. Plans educational content with learner engagement
- Partners with the Clinical Education Market Director to review outcomes data to evaluate and refine aptitude management activities
- Demonstrates an expertise of adult educational theory and the ability to apply evaluation methodologies (i.e., Kirkpatrick) into courses and curriculum to refine clinical programs
- Graduate from an accredited professional school of nursing, preferred.
- If RN, and if hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position.
- Associate Degree required.
- Continuing education in lactation and breastfeeding required.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in maternal‑child health nursing in an acute care setting, preferred.
- Experience with breastfeeding management required.
- Current RN License in the State of Texas or compact license, preferred.
- IBCLC required.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider.
- NRP within 3 months of hire.
