The successful Quality and Safety Environmental Specialist will manage ISO-9001 quality management system requirements for the facilities to ensure compliance and continual improvement of the management system and quality delivery. The role will include Safety and Environmental responsibilities to drive EHS and lean improvements across the workshop by identifying and eliminating system deficiencies and failures.

What You’ll Do- Assist with initial implementation then ensure the QMS is maintained.
- Champion overall quality responsibilities for the assigned region.
- Promote quality as a continuous improvement program and ensure employees are constantly committed to this process through investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
- Maintain a strong shop floor presence, engage employees, promote improvement opportunities, and forge relationships with employees at all levels.
- Actively listen to input from employees and respond as needed to embed quality processes and controls in “how we work.”
- Utilize advanced analytics to drive decision making and keep managers aware of location quality performance.
- Work with workshop management teams to develop quality incident reduction plans.
- Conduct quality leadership training for managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Keep quality records.
- Manage quality incident investigations, evaluate trends, and collaborate with process owners, engineers, and/or other parties to institute tangible corrective actions.
- Apply systemic risk management to identify opportunities to improve intrinsic quality controls to prevent human error.
- Create new and transform existing quality record keeping processes to assure appropriate behaviors and generate desired results.
- Conduct internal quality audits.
- Network with other quality professionals across the company to share best practices and critical discussions on quality issues.
- Maintain calibration records.
- Respond to customer inquiries on quality.
- Participate in registration/surveillance audits.
- Report safety data in incident information in corporate safety management systems.
- Develop and implement new and modified safety policies for the assigned region.
- Network with other safety professionals across the company to share best practices and critical discussions on safety issues.
- Provide input to corporate safety as needed regarding proposed safety policies.
- Identify and utilize technology products to aid in injury reduction and safety improvement.
- Conduct local and corporate safety training for employees and new hires.
- Keep records of safety training and employee certifications.
- Promote safety as a continuous improvement program and ensure employees are committed through investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned at other SMS locations.
- Facilitate 5S and lean improvement projects.
- Travel to sites at least 2 times per year.
- Ensure corrective actions are properly generated, documented, tracked, and effectively closed.
- Ensure quality document control and records controls are maintained and operating effectively.
- Conduct management review.
- Conduct activities as management representative.
- Teleconference with all facilities to ensure all audit, observation, complaint action items are followed through.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) from a four-year college or university; two or more years of related experience in the governance, administration, and operation of a quality management system and all components in a manufacturing or processing industry.
- Demonstrated proficiency in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and safety causation models.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Ability to solve practical problems and handle diverse variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form.
- Computer skills: GSS, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); VBA programming a plus.
- Advanced algebra and the ability to apply mathematical concepts to solving quality problems related to material processing, manufacturing, and special relationships.
