Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled Laser and CNC Press Brake Programmer to join our team in the metal manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating both laser cutting machines and CNC press brakes to produce high-precision metal parts. The role requires a strong understanding of both laser cutting and press brake operations, along with expertise in CAD/CAM software, to ensure the highest quality and efficiency in production.

Key Responsibilities:
Laser Cutting Programming:

  • Program Development: Develop and optimize programs for laser cutting machines using CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, or proprietary software).
  • Machine Setup: Set up laser cutting machines for various metal types and thicknesses, ensuring correct parameters are applied.
  • Quality Control: Perform test cuts and adjustments to ensure that parts meet the required specifications, maintaining high precision.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to laser cutting, including material loading, machine parameters, and program execution.
CNC Press Brake Programming:
  • Program Development: Create CNC programs for press brakes using CAD/CAM software, ensuring that the bending process is efficient and accurate.
  • Tool Selection & Setup: Select appropriate tooling for press brake operations and configure the machine to the correct settings, based on material and part requirements.
  • Bend Sequence Optimization: Optimize bending sequences to minimize material waste and maximize production efficiency.
  • Inspection & Adjustment: Ensure that parts are bent within tolerance and adjust programs or machine settings to meet precise requirements.
Collaboration & Communication:
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality control teams to address production challenges and improve workflow.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of machine setups, tool changes, and adjustments made to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  • Customer Specifications: Ensure that all parts conform to customer drawings and specifications, providing feedback to the design team when necessary.
Maintenance & Safety:
  • Routine Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of laser cutting machines and press brakes to ensure smooth operation and prevent downtime.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment by following proper safety protocols for operating machinery.
  • Tool & Machine Calibration: Regularly calibrate and test machines to maintain performance standards.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or GED required;
Associate's degree or technical certification in Manufacturing Technology, CNC Programming, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in programming and operating both laser cutting machines and CNC press brakes in a manufacturing environment.
    • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works, Radan, etc.) and CNC programming languages (G-code, etc.).
    • Strong knowledge of metal types, material properties, and their specific requirements for laser cutting and bending.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
    • Knowledge of laser cutting parameters (e.g., speed, power, frequency) and press brake bending techniques (e.g., air bending, coining, bottoming).
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Detail-oriented with a focus on producing high-quality, accurate parts.
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong manual dexterity and coordination to operate complex machinery and tools safely.
Can you describe your experience programming both Laser and CNC Press Brake machines?*

What KPIs do you monitor to ensure efficient and effective operation of both the laser cutter and press brake?*

How do you conduct risk assessments before setting up a CNC Press Brake or Laser machine for production?*

Can you describe a time when you identified a potential risk (e.g., machine malfunction, safety hazard) in your CNC programming, and how you handled it?*

Can you provide an example of a process improvement you've implemented that reduced machine downtime or improved cycle time for either laser or press brake operations?*

How do you communicate machine performance and production results to management?*
