Electrician/ Electrician Installation, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Electrician I, II & III perform technical work in the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic components for City facilities. Work is performed under moderate supervision and may involve supervising a small crew.
OverviewJob levels:
Electrician I (entry), II (intermediate), III (advanced). Each level requires increasing experience and knowledge.
- Troubleshoot electrical components (25%)
- Repair and replace outdated electrical components (20%)
- Install new electrical circuits (20%)
- Discuss job requirements with supervisor (5%)
- Inspect for NEC violations (5%)
- Develop work assignments based on priorities (5%)
- Requisition equipment and materials (5%)
- Maintain time and materials records (5%)
- Train and instruct unskilled workers (5%)
- Serve on emergency on‑call rotation (5%)
General knowledge of installation, repair, troubleshooting and replacement of all electrical components associated with municipal building facilities, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations, and electrical schematics.
National Electrical Code proficiency, diagnostic equipment skills, report preparation and schematic reading ability.
Education and ExperienceElectrician I
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years experience in electrical maintenance
- HS Diploma or equivalent with minimum 4 years experience
- Or Associates Degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology with minimum 2 years experience
- HS Diploma or equivalent with minimum 6 years experience
- Or Associates Degree in Electrical or Electronic Technology with minimum 4 years experience
Electrician I
- NIMS 100, 200, 700 certificates within 12 months of hire
- North Carolina Limited Electrical Contractor License
- Pull permits in name or license signed over to City of Gastonia
- NIMS 100, 200, 700 certificates within 12 months of hire
- North Carolina Intermediate Electrical Contractor License
- Pull permits in name or license signed over to City of Gastonia
- NIMS 100, 200, 700 certificates within 12 months of hire
- North Carolina Unlimited Electrical Contractor License
- Pull permits in name or license signed over to City of Gastonia
Valid North Carolina driver's license.
Physical Demands- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.
- Medium Work:
Up to 50 lbs occasional, 20 lbs frequent, 10 lbs constant. - Heavy Work:
Up to 100 lbs occasional, 50 lbs frequent, 20 lbs constant.
