About the Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant join our finance team in Gateshead. This role will support the senior accounting staff with day-to-day financial operations and provide an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their accounting career within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Process purchase and sales invoices
- Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support VAT returns and HMRC submissions
- Assist with payroll processing
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities
- Assist with year-end accounts and liaise with external accountants or auditors
- Respond to finance-related queries internally and externally
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
- Basic understanding of UK accounting principles
- Experience using accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, Quick Books)
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks
- AAT qualification (or working towards)
- Experience in a small to medium-sized business environment
