We're looking for a Music Editor with a proven track record of commissioning, developing and delivering music content for publication. This is not primarily an audio production, teaching or performance role. We're seeking someone with experience making editorial decisions, managing contributors, and taking music content from concept through to publication.
This role is central to the production of songs; including new commissions and 3rd party copyright arrangements for our world-class Song Bank, with a particular focus on commissioning high-quality audio tracks, and preparing content for digital publication.
About the roleAs Music Editor, you'll contribute to the selection, commissioning, editing, and delivery of music and educational content ensuring materials are engaging, accurate and of the highest quality.
You’ll:
- Commission original songs and arrangements, audio tracks and other educational content for publication.
- Work with external contributors such as songwriters, vocalists and music producers coordinating recording projects and other resource development projects.
- Occasionally attend recording sessions ensuring the creation of accurate and high quality audio.
- Assess commissioned work against editorial briefs, publication standards and audience needs, providing clear developmental feedback where required.
- Make editorial recommendations regarding repertoire selection, content suitability and publication readiness.
- Ensure commissioned content aligns with Sing Up's educational, musical and editorial standards.
- Prepare and upload content for publication via Sing Up's digital platform.
- Support the maintenance of production schedules, records, budgets and editorial processes.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across publishing, digital learning and marketing.
You’ll work with internal teams and a wide network of song writers, arrangers, writers, musicians, teachers, engineers and other contributors to ensure Sing Up's content continues to inspire and support music-making in schools and beyond.
About youYou're an experienced music professional with strong editorial and audio production skills who enjoys bringing creative projects to life.
Additionally you understand the importance of singing and music for children and young people and are passionate about making sure that songs and music in schools reflect the musical interests of children and young people.
You have experience working in a music publishing, music education publishing, content publishing or equivalent editorial environment. You understand how to commission, review, refine and deliver content for publication, and can confidently make editorial judgements about quality, suitability and audience needs.
You bring:
- A degree, or equivalent, in music or a music-related discipline.
- Demonstrable professional experience in music editing, music publishing, educational publishing or content development, including responsibility for commissioning, reviewing and delivering content to publication standard.
- Experience commissioning and managing work created by others, rather than solely creating content yourself.
- Evidence of making editorial decisions and providing developmental feedback to creators, contributors or content producers.
- A passion for music with eclectic and genre-fluid listening habits/ knowledge.
- Experience in studio recording and audio production.
- Excellent musicianship, including strong aural skills.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Experience working with a range of contributors and external suppliers.
- Confidence managing multiple priorities while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
