Salary: £89 - £108 per day (depending on experience)

Protocol Education is working with a number of specialist and alternative provisions across Gateshead who are seeking skilled and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistants to support pupils who may be at risk of exclusion or who require a therapeutic approach to learning.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils with SEMH needs, often on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.

• Work alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral teams to implement behaviour strategies and emotional regulation techniques.

• Provide structure and routine to help pupils re-engage with learning.

• Help pupils build confidence, self-esteem, and positive relationships.

• Contribute to personalised learning plans and behaviour support plans.

• Has experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or trauma-informed needs (e.g., in education, youth work, residential care or similar).

• Is calm, consistent, and able to de-escalate situations with empathy.

• Has a genuine commitment to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

• Is emotionally resilient, reflective, and keen to develop professionally.

• Holds (or is willing to apply for) an enhanced DBS on the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
