Teaching Assistant - Primary SEN School
Location: Gateshead
Contract: Full-time / Part-time options available, term-time
Salary: £14 per hour
Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) and making a real difference in their learning journey? We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a friendly, inclusive SEN school in Gateshead.
About the RoleAs a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and other support staff to provide high-quality, personalised support to pupils with a wide range of SEN, including learning difficulties, communication challenges, and social, emotional, or behavioural needs. Your role will be vital in helping children access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities- Support teaching staff in delivering lessons tailored to the needs of SEN pupils
- Assist with small group or 1:1 interventions
- Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
- Help create a positive and structured learning environment
- Assist with record keeping, progress monitoring, and preparation of resources
- Encourage independence and self‑confidence in all learners
- Has experience working with primary‑aged children, ideally in an SEN setting
- Is patient, compassionate, and adaptable
- Understands or is willing to learn SEN strategies, communication approaches, and behaviour management techniques
- Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with colleagues, pupils, and parents
- Has relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) or equivalent experience
- A supportive and inclusive working environment

- Monday – Friday, term‑time only
