Position: 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant

We’re working with a fantastic SEN school in Gateshead that’s looking for a steady, supportive Behaviour Support Assistant to work 1:1 with a pupil who needs consistent guidance, reassurance and structure
. The school has a warm, nurturing feel and a team who work closely together to give every child a sense of belonging.

What the role involves
  • Supporting one pupil throughout the school day, helping them regulate emotions and stay engaged

  • Using clear routines, positive reinforcement and calm communication

  • Working with teachers, support staff and the pastoral team to ensure strategies are consistent

  • Helping create a safe, predictable learning environment

  • Celebrating the small wins, even on the tougher days

What the school is looking for
  • Someone patient, grounded and great at reading situations

  • Experience in SEN, youth work, care, sports coaching or behaviour support is helpful

  • A person who can stay calm in challenging moments and rebuild connection afterwards

  • Clear communication, resilience and a warm approach

  • You don’t need to have all the answers, just the right attitude and willingness to learn

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
