BSL Teaching Assistant – Specialist Provision, Gateshead

Protocol Education is recruiting a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to join their team full‑time from September. This role supports pupils with hearing impairments and helps them achieve their full potential in a supportive educational environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Providing communication support for deaf and hearing‑impaired pupils
  • Using BSL to support learning and classroom participation
  • Assisting teachers with classroom activities and resources
  • Promoting pupil independence and confidence
  • Liaising with families, teachers and specialist professionals
  • Recording and reporting on pupil progress
Requirements
  • BSL Level 2 or higher
  • Experience supporting children or young people is beneficial
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A caring, patient and adaptable approach
  • Commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted include 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position, though a permanent option may become available later.
